I've been busy dealing with the Patagonian estancia and with all the extra workload it's given me I began thinking why did I ever get involved with this and then I realized it was because of Jeff. This was what he wanted to do but didn't have a chance to carry out. So I just completed the task. I'm channeling him, in a way. He's working through me to accomplish his goal.
Once I thought about it that way I relaxed and just did what needed to be done. I even chattered with Jeff in my head as I did things, explaining to him what I was doing, asking his advice sometimes. Did he reply? I kind of thought so. In fact, one time while I was sitting at his office desk going over things, I heard the big overstuffed chair where he always sat to look out the window and think creak and the ottoman scrape as if someone had gotten out of it, nudging the ottoman aside. I turned to look and see who it was, thinking maybe my mother had come in and sat down without my noticing. But there was no one there. The room was empty.
I got up and went out on the landing and called "Mom?" I heard her respond from downstairs. I asked if she had just been in the office and she said no, she'd been sitting with the baby.
I went back into the office. I felt light somehow. "Hey, Jeffie," I whispered.
